This is a portrait of James, Mui Mui, and Sissy (left to right) that I did for Tim and Felix. I think it’s pretty clever that they named their female French bulldog “James”.

So, it’s not always pets I paint on commission. The great thing about all the different species we have to admire on this earth is that any one of them can be used as a symbol. If, like the couple who hired me to paint a Highland cow and a Scottish wildcat, you open your own Scotch distillery in Montana, then why not hang paintings of two of Scotland’s most iconic species?

Granted, most of my knowledge of Scotland comes from reading the “Outlander” series, and from watching “Braveheart”..both, an embarrassing number of times. I don’t care that they were written by Americans. No one is more culturally enamored of the Scots than the Americans..except for, presumably, the Scots themselves.

This is one of a pair I did for a couple from Chicago some years back. I LOVE painting hairless cats because they’re very nearly people. In fact, I’m pretty sure that, given a few million years of evolution, hairless cats will have evolved to become our benevolent overlords. They’re quite friendly, which is good news for humanity!
